TOURNAMENT VIDEOS THE 1980's

Come look back on the early days of Bradley Hughes.

The 1980s were a great time for golf. Amazing players. Amazing courses.

We used persimmon woods and small blade irons. The ball spun far greater than today.

Control was of the utmost importance and yet a very difficult thing to do.

It was certainly a tougher game back then. However, it did allow the better ball strikers the opportunity to separate themselves from the pack if all cylinders were firing.

1982 Victorian Open - A taste of the big time

1989 Benson & Hedges - A European record start

1988 Western Australian Open - Third event is a win

1989 New South Wales Open- Course record and a runner up finish

1988 Australian Open - And a major champion pairing

As the game of golf took a stranglehold on my thoughts' day in and day out, I couldn't wait to get home from school so I could head to the golf course.

It wasn't uncommon during school holidays for me to spend 12 hours or more on the course each and every day.

I would hit my shag bag of 100 balls with every club in the bag before heading to the chipping green and putting green.

The next day I would go around and around the course, sometimes playing 54 holes in one day.

I loved the challenge of getting better and figuring out all the shots that would make me better and better over time.

I would sometimes sleep on the driving range in a tent just so I could be first up and on the range the very next morning.

Golf excellence takes a lot of dedication and will. Many people say I was a natural, but those people have no idea just how hard I worked at the game from a very young age.

It wasn't to be famous or to win a fortune. It was because I absolutely loved the challenge of the game. Just me and the course and my clubs. It was all up to me how good I could become.
